The regulations regarding the installation of tinted windows on the front of the vehicle.
Extract from the Decree n° 2016-448 on 13 April 2016 to amend certain provisions of the highway code relating to vehicles (in force from 1 January 2017) :
The second, third and fourth paragraphs of article R. 316-3 are replaced by the following provisions :
"The glass of the windshield and the front side windows on the driver's side and passenger side must also have a sufficient degree of transparency, both from within and from outside the vehicle, and does not cause any deformation significant objects seen through the transparency nor any significant change to their colors. The transparency of these windows is considered to be sufficient if the regular transmittance of light is at least 70 %. In the event of breakage, they must allow the driver to continue to clearly see the road.
Any transaction that may reduce the safety characteristics or the conditions of transparency of the glass windows provided in the preceding paragraphs, is prohibited.
The minister in charge of transport establish by decree the modalities of application of this article. It determines in particular the conditions for licensing, including transparency, of the different categories of glass fitted to the vehicles and, if applicable, the exceptions that would justify medical reasons or conditions for the development of armoured vehicles.
Contravention of the provisions of this section or those adopted for its implementation, with the exception of those relating to conditions of transparency, is punished by the fine stipulated for tickets of the third class. "
After the article R. 316-3, it is inserted article R. 316-3-1 as follows :
"Art. R. 316-3-1. - The fact, for any driver, driving with a vehicle not complying with the provisions of article R. 316-3 relating to the conditions of transparency of the glass laid down in this article or those taken for its application is punishable by the fine stipulated for tickets of the fourth class. This ticket gives venue as of right to the reduction of three points on the driving licence.
The immobilization can be prescribed in the conditions laid down in articles L. 325-1 to L. 325-3. "
In the state, from January 1, 2017, the TVL (Transmission of Visible Light) must be at least 70% on the front side windows. Only the installation of the film Extreme Clear 70 and Black 70 on the front windows are allowed to circulate on the areas governed by the code of French highway.

Today the French legislation does not prohibit the installation of films for glazing, provided that they do not distort or do not distort the field of vision, and are not reflective.

Article R. 412-6 of the code of the road :
Any driver of a vehicle shall be held constantly in a state and in position to perform conveniently and without delay, all the manoeuvres required of them. In particular, its possibilities of movement and field of vision must not be reduced by the affixing of objects that are not transparent on the windows.
The article R. 316-1 of the code of the road :
All vehicles must provide a field of visibility to the driver, to the front, to the right and to the left, which is sufficient for it to be able to drive with safety.
The article R. 316-3 of the code of the road :
Moreover, it should be noted that none of the text in France, at the level of the highway Code, strictly prohibits the use of films on windows. The installation of films for glazing is only prohibited on the windshield.
All glass, including windshield, must be in a transparent substance. Accordingly, in a general way, this operation is not recommended because it can have an adverse effect on the purposes of optical glass.
However, if the vehicle has two outside mirrors, a certain darkening of the rear window and rear side windows (obtained by gluing or any other process) designed to protect from the sun the occupants of the rear seats is not prohibited.
